Erik ten Hag has said its normal for him to put David de Gea back into Manchester Uniteds starting line up to play Real Betis.

United have trained in Spain this week and they played Cadiz CF in a friendly on Wednesday but loanee goalkeeper Martin Dubravka started in that 4-2 defeat at the Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla withDe Geaabsent from the matchday squad.

De Gea returned to training after that match against Cadiz and Ten Hag reinstated him in the Reds starting side to play against Real Betis on Saturday evening, which is the last friendlyUnitedare scheduled to play in preparation for the domestic restart.

With the exception of De Gea replacing Dubravka, Ten Hag picked an unnamed team to play Betis following the Cadiz friendly and that means Alejandro Garnacho, Anthony Martial and Anthony Elanga are responsible for leading the attack again.

Ten Hagdiscussed his team selection ahead of kick-off and he seemed pleased De Gea was back in the starting side.

Its normal [De Gea return], he has himself to prepare, we have to prepare him, we make a plan and so we stick to the plan, Ten Hag said. Theyve [Betis] also got some players at the World Cup, not as much as we have, definitely not.

I think we miss the whole starting XI, but they have good quality, a good team, sixth in the league, so we have to be good. It was not a good performance [Cadiz], we said that after the game, so we have to do better.

The back four had never played together, but still, we have to organise better in and out of possession to the midfield, offensive line, better in the transition. We have to keep the ball better, move it through the team and make runs.

United return to competitive football against Burnley in the League Cup on December 21.
