Manchester United were held to a point on Sunday by relegation-threatened Southampton.

Though it ended goalless, there were plenty of incidents in an entertaining match. Casemiro was dismissed after catching Carlos Alcaraz on the follow-through of a tackle, United were denied what appeared to be a clear penalty and both teams hit the woodwork.

Casemiros dismissal could prove costly for United because its his second red of the season he will be suspended for four games, meaning he will miss the FA Cup tie with Fulham as well as Newcastle, Brentford and Everton in the league.

Alejandro Garnacho also had to go off with what appeared to be an ankle injury and left Old Trafford on crutches but Erik ten Hag is optimistic it wont be serious.

Uniteds attentions will now turn to Europe ahead of facing Real Betis in the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie on Thursday.

According to a report byPianeta Milan, United are interested in signing AC Milan forward Rafael Leao ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old, who can operate both out wide and through the middle, is genterating a wealth of interest and United are reportedly among his suitors.

It was perhaps no clearer than with Fernandes who naturally looked to play with the same freedom he relishes as an attacking midfielder, but that then left him exposed defensively against a well-drilled midfield. In hindsight, it is much easier to find fault with the selection, but Uniteds makeshift set-up didnt make any sense, given that it played into Southamptons strengths as a team with a talented midfield of their own.

United are planning to let winger Facundo Pellistri leave the club on loan ahead of next season.

The right-winger has made six substitute appearances since the start of this calendar year, having an impact in each of them. However, he is still yet to start a game for the club.

To support his development, the Reds are now considering sending him, as well as one other forward, out on loan.

United manager Erik ten Hag believes Jadon Sancho has the ability to influence games from the No.10 position.

The England international started in a central area for yesterdays 0-0 draw with Southampton in a very attack-minded approach. It is not the first time he has started centrally in recent weeks.

According to a report by French newspaper LEquipe, as cited byGet Football News France, Marseille are unlikely to consider turning Eric Baillys loan move into a permanent deal.

Uniteds players told each other that a victory with 10-men was possible at half-time against Southampton.

Although the game finished goalless, both sides hit the woodwork in the match and David de Gea revealed the message at half-time was to believe the game could still be won, despite the sending-off.

Southampton manager Ruben Selles said it was a waste of time talking about the officials when asked about Casemiros red card yesterday.

I got a look at it but I dont want to speak about the referees performance, he said.

I think its a waste of time. The referee makes a decision, sometimes it goes for you and sometimes it doesnt, thats it.

Casemiro faces a four-match suspension after being sent off in the first half of Uniteds Premier League clash with Southampton at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Unless United choose to appeal the decision and are successful in their efforts, Casemiro will now serve a four-match ban across all domestic matches, starting with next Sundays FA Cup quarter-final at home to Fulham. He will also miss the Premier League fixtures against Newcastle United, Brentford and Everton immediately after the upcoming international break.

United will face competition from a host of clubs if they try to sign Victor Osimhen this summer.

Erik ten Hags side have an interest in the Napoli forward but it is reported that Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain do too.

Garnachostarted on the bench on Sunday afternoon and he replaced Jadon Sancho in the 73rd minute. He was soon forced to receive medical treatment after appearing to get caught between Kyle Walker-Peters legs.

The youngster attempted to continue and he returned to the pitch, but he was eventually substituted off with a minute of normal time remaining. He then headed straight down the tunnel and left the stadium on crutches.

Casemiro was shown a yellow card for an overzealous tackle on Southampton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz in the 32nd minute of Uniteds goalless draw, but referee Anthony Taylor was advised to consult the monitor for a replay and he retrospectively dismissed the Brazilian.

The 31-year-old will serve a four-match suspension as he had already been sent off this season against Crystal Palace and it will take the total number of games Casemiro has been banned for up to eight.
